Among the Blood Wolf species are those unable to bear the discomfort of the diseases that infect them—and instead opt to absorb a Fire Spirit. The spirit burns the body from the inside, eliminating the myriad diseases at their source. While this causes extreme pain to the host, it may be a price worth paying. Meanwhile, the spirits are able to absorb the strong magical power that resides in the Blood Wolves. This makes them reluctant to leave, leading to a mutually beneficial symbiotic relationship that results in the wolves becoming stronger, and often leaders of their pack. However, when the life of the host wolf ends, the spirit floats to the surface, takes control of the lifeless body, and wanders in search of its next host.
