He didn't understand the cravings—he knew only that he must take all within reach. He knew it to be a baser instinct, and yet he was at its mercy. The sweet taste of his prey, of his dominion, of his unending conquest—such things sustained him. Nothing could match the feeling that came from seizing, from taking. So he kept on reaping, battle after bloody battle, until there was nothing left to reap. Desperate for something, anything, to purloin, he seized his own heart and ripped it from his chest. Seeing this, the Goddess took pity on him. She named him Vodnir and sealed him away as a Guardian.
